Frequently Asked Questions

What is tea?

There are 6 types of true tea. These are made from the evergreen plant, Camellia Sinensis. There are two main varieties of Camellia sinensis - Camellia sinensis var. sinensis, and Camellia sinensis var. assamica. Both varieties produce teas with different flavours and attributes. The true teas are white tea, green tea, oolong tea, black tea, pu erh and yellow tea. Herbal teas are not true teas. They are referred to as tisanes. Tisanes are made from the infusion of herbs, spices or other plant material in hot water.

Where do your teas come from?

We source our teas from all over the world. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that all our teas adhere to the highest levels of quality and taste before they are selected as part of our collection.

How long does your tea stay fresh?

This depends on each tea blend. However, the average shelf life of teas is a good 2 years or before the best before date indicated. To keep your teas fresh, we recommend storing them in an airtight container, in a cool and dry environment, away from any odours or direct sunlight.

What is the caffeine content of tea?

All true teas contain varying levels of caffeine, from as low as 30mg to 90mg per cup. This level is determined by the type of tea, growing methods and how it was brewed. Thus, we are unable to generalise the caffeine content of each tea. For caffeine-free alternatives, we recommend our herbal teas.

Why do you use flavourings for your teas?

Although most teas are delicious unflavoured, the use of flavours is a way to come up with innovative and flavourful teas that are suitable for all taste buds. We are careful to use minimal flavourings in our teas.

Are your teas calorie and sugar-free?

Most of our teas contain close to or no calories and sugar.

Is it safe to drink tea during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

We suggest consulting your doctor if you have any concerns about drinking teas or infusions during pregnancy or whilst breast feeding. All of our teas have detailed ingredient lists so that you are able to make informed decisions.

Why do you use pyramid tea bags instead of normal teabags?

Tea dust or fannings are used in normal tea bags. They produce a quick and strong brew, but oftentimes, at the expense of quality and flavour. Our pyramid tea bags contain whole leaves to ensure that the character of the teas are in no way compromised. As pyramid tea bags provide sufficient space for the teas to brew, you are able to get a much better brew with the convenience of a standard tea bag. To make things even better, our pyramid tea bags are made out of environmentally friendly and biodegradable plant material.
